Stays at The Soul Shack are full of fun, laughter, and adventures, whilst focussing on developing friendships and connections with others.

We create memories by working as a team to celebrate each other, offer and receive support together, and ensure everyone is included and knows they belong.

A high level of support is provided to attendees with activities such as snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, kayaking down crystal-clear streams, swimming and exploring gorgeous waterholes, spending time with our amazing animals, themed events, campfires, costumes, craft projects, as well as all sorts of other quirky activities specifically designed to increase motivation, encourage socialisation, and improve self-confidence.

We are an NDIS Registered Provider. All costs (such as activities, meals, accommodation) are covered through guests' NDIS plans, using either 'Core' or 'Capacity Building' funding.

Group event stays occur every fortnight, plus we offer individual respite stays outside of these dates.

The Soul Shack is located 45 minutes south of Cairns. Transport to and from the shack is available.

Our experienced Occupational Therapist has structured the programs at The Soul Shack based on current research and evidence-based practices, with delivery in an alternative, non-clinical, back-to-basics, nature filled approach.

Activities are specifically designed to increase functional capacity in all eight NDIS Outcome Domains. Please let us know if you would like more information about this to support your NDIS review.

The Soul Shack — FNQ Occupational Therapy supports people with disability and mental health challenges by providing respite, short term accommodation, and intensive capacity building stays.

Support can be provided individually, for small groups for up to 14 nights at a time, and through our regular larger group stays.

The Soul Shack is an NDIS registered provider (therapeutic supports, FNQ Occupational Therapy). 

The Soul Shack is owned and operated by Sylvia Read, an Occupational Therapist with over 20 years’ experience working with people of all ages with disability and mental health challenges.

It is a magical place where our primary goal is to create ‘the perfect world'. It's a place where every person is valued, respected, included, and treated as an equal, with the hope that this will ripple out into the wider world.

The Soul Shack is a rural property, located approximately 45 minutes south of Cairns, Far North Queensland.

It is a rustic, quirky, unique farmhouse with a huge indoor tropical garden.

The property has resident animals, including miniature horses, a donkey, a pig, dogs, chickens, guinea pigs, cockatiels, and ducks.

Activities offered at The Soul Shack include laser tag, team games, lawn sports, watching films on our huge outdoor movie screen, karaoke, a pool table, air hockey, an extensive costume collection, campfire, themed dinners and events, ping pong, board games, animal care, gardening, cooking, crafts, treasure hunt, and other activities designed to suit group events.

Off-site activities include kayaking along Babinda Creek, snorkelling and stand up paddle boarding on visits to beautiful tropical islands, bush walking, picnics and swimming at lush water holes, as well as enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of Babinda township and other local hidden gems.
