Employment Program

We value the contribution of every individual, with the belief that everyone has something to offer. We are committed to acknowledge this through our Participant Employment Program.

Everyone who attends the five-day program at The Soul Shack has the opportunity to be employed as a peer support worker on every fourth five-day stay.

For the first two five-day stays, the participant will take part in all activities. On their third five-day stay, they will be given the opportunity to volunteer small blocks of time to assist the support workers and OT, whilst still participating in activities. On their fourth five-day stay, they will have the opportunity for casual employment whilst still receiving 1:2 or 1:1 support. 

Casual employees will work 7.5 hours per day, paid at the Industry award rate (16 years and above), earning approximately $840.

Employment tasks will be assigned and modified according to the individuals' abilities, e.g. one employee may be asked to help dry and put away cutlery, while another might be asked to set up the electronic equipment for karaoke.

Participant employees will be closely supervised for all tasks and will still participate in the majority of activities. They will not be responsible for providing support to any other participants. They will not be left alone with other attendees or perform any personal care tasks.
