This is offered on every third 5 day stay, to all participants over the age of 18 years.
The first stay the participant experiences the camp and activities. The 2nd stay they are welcome to assist as a volunteer, whilst still participating in activies. The 3rd stay they are welcome to work as a paid peer worker, whilst still participating in activities.
Support is provided at 1:2 ratio or 1:1 ratio with cost of the stay remaining the same.
The participant is provided with the support they require by Soul Shack staff. Their duties will be suited to their functional level with a very high level of supervision at all times. One peer workers role may be to dry the teaspoons after dinner, anothers may be to setup the electronic equipment for kaaroke - it is completely individualised, the role will be significantly modified to suit their individual abilities.
Peer workers will not assist in tasks such as self-care assistance, medication etc, and will never be left alone with another participant. Peer workers are not included in the support ratio provided to other participants.
